My favorite Artwork I made this semester was my final artwork. I like it best because it looks the most like "cartoon characters" and I like those types of things. I also like that I made 3 of them. I was planning on giving one to my Mom, one to my younger sister, Ellie, and I would keep one for myself. I thought 2 of us would want the same one but my Mom liked the crab the best, Ellie liked the whale the best, and I liked the starfish the best. I would like to redo my Non-Representational artwork. When I showed my friend, Kaleah, she couldn't tell what it was, and when I explained what it was she still didn't get it. Then when I got home I brought it out to my Dad to show him. Some other people were in his shop and nobody knew what it was. I was proud of it but when nobody understood what it was I stopped liking it. I've learned that if you really want something to turn out you should take your time on it and have lots of patience. I thought all of my artworks turned out better in art class than they would've at home because I barely have any patience. So I don't like waiting for things to dry. And usually everything I paint turns out horrible because of it. I am glad that we only had a certain amount of time to make the artworks every day or else they would've turned out looking like a pile of garbage.
I wish I would've thought to do something with CTR(Crash Team Racing) Nitro Fueled. I probably would have made something out of air-dry clay. I probably would've made either white Pura or normal Coco. I would've made them using the same method I did when making the final artwork(painting air-dry clay). I probably wouldn't have made them look really detailed, just simple.

Target EvidenceFrank Big Bear is one artist who my artwork can be related to because he uses a theme of personal life. I used the theme of personal life in my artwork since my family spends time together watching movies and one movie we always watch during Christmas is Elf. My artwork is based on the Arctic Puppets from Elf. Other artists we looked at in class are Jim Denomie, who uses themes of American and Native American history and pop culture, Maggie Thompson, who uses themes of Cultural Appropriation and Stereotypes, Al Wadzinski, who uses a theme of Impacts on animals and nature, and Steve Premo, who uses the theme of Social Justice. Their art tells the viewers how it is for their cultural groups. They use things that happened in their lives and put it into art. Artist StatementMy artwork is a crab, a starfish, and a whale. I made it out of air-dry clay, paint, and wire. I shaped the 3 characters out of clay and painted them. I was going to make the puffin from the movie Elf, but that would be copying, so I decided to make a summer trio. I made them because my family loves to watch the movie Elf. We probably watched it at least 20 times together this year. I wanted to make something that I would really like and actually use. I am giving the crab to my Mom, the whale to my younger sister, and I am keeping the starfish for myself. I named the crab little legs because he is missing 4 legs. I think he would've looked weird with all ten legs. I named the starfish Al because when I was painting him his paint looked really wrinkly, but I covered it up with more paint. Also, Al is the grandpa from The Goldbergs, and my family watches The Goldbergs together. He is still pretty wrinkly, but he's not as bad as before. I named the whale Einstein because the whale has a huge head, so he can fit his huge brain inside. All three had to go through many facial reconstructions. I think my artwork turned out better than I wanted. I think they look pretty good and I am really surprised at how they turned out.
Target EvidenceI tried to make my artwork look like my Dad(I know a creeper has 6 wheels, but I couldn't find enough of the same size buttons). I presented my art in the media center because there is some art in there.
My figure is a person on a creeper. It is supposed to represent my Dad. My Dad works at home and almost every day when I get home from school he is working on something. I am making my sculpture out of wire and plaster gauze. I am also using felt, cardboard, buttons, and paper. I will paint the wire sculpture tan, green, and beige. I am thinking of making boots out of paper and the creeper out of felt, cardboard, and buttons. I will make a felt hat and a wrench out of cardboard. I would paint the cardboard for the creeper black and the wrench silver. I am making it for my Dad. If I would display it somewhere I would want to put it in my Dad's shop, but I need to display it in the school so I would maybe put it somewhere by the metal shop. For the clay unit I am making a bowl for my Mom. It is a color called Wedgewood Blue and it says "To Mom" on the side. I made it using the pinch pot method. My Mom needed a spot to put her jewelry when she washes dishes, so I made her a little bowl for it. It still hasn't been fired so I have to wait for it to be fired with the next batch.
My artwork is 2 red horns and a gold halo on a white base. I made it out of plaster gauze, papier mache, wire, and wood. I got a piece of wood and covered it in plaster gauze. That was for the base. I made a circle with wire covered in papier mache and painted it with gold paint for the halo. I made the horns out of a mold I made with tinfoil. I covered it in plaster gauze and repeated the same thing for the other horn. I glued the horns to the base and then glued the halo to the horns. I was inspired by my two cats. One of them is really nice to me all the time and the other one will be nice to me for a while but then she will completely ignore me, plus, she gets really cranky. I wanted to make something out of materials that I haven't used before. I have never tried to make something out of wire and papier mache before, but it was really fun and simple. It was fun to make this artwork because I got to use a lot of new materials. I like my artwork a lot because I know that it represents my cats and I love cats. I wanted to put red x's and gold o's on the base but I liked the plain white base so it wasn't too distracting. Target Evidence: Non-RepresentationalMy teacher gave me feedback on my artwork. She gave me ideas on how to make the base and halo. I used her ideas and they made my artwork a lot better. At first I planned to make my base out of cardboard but we went to the woodshop and got a piece of wood and I like it with a wooden base. Instead of just painting the base white, I covered it in plaster gauze which looks a lot nicer than what I had planned. I used a lot of plaster gauze which I had only used once for a bowl. It worked really nice for what I was making. I also have never used papier mache using Mod Podge and paper towels so I was nervous about what it would turn out as, but it worked better that I thought it would. I didn't know how to get the halo to stay when the Tacky Glue was drying so I took the glue bottle and held it up with that. Then I moved it so I could put the glue away and while it was drying it tipped a little, but I think it looks good if it is tilted because it doesn't look like it is just sitting there.
Target EvidenceI looked at different pictures online of mangers and built mine off those ideas. I sketched out my ideas in my sketchbook, but I had to change a the legs so it would stand up properly. I tested out the X-ACTO knives on the craft sticks and tried different ways of painting it. I used a new technique of painting and instead of gluing it with hot glue I glued it with craft glue. I tried to make it look like weathered wood and it worked out kind-of well but it could've been better if I wouldn't of messed up with the white paint. Artist Statement
I decided to make a manger because I am making the Nativity Scene at home. To get Ideas, I looked at artists and ideas at the end of the slideshow. I documented my ideas by sketching them out in my sketchbook. I learned that craft sticks are easy to work with. I also learned that it is easier to cut craft sticks with an X-ACTO knife.
I tested out materials and I tried Styrogami, Floral Foam, Wire, Plaster Gauze, Papier-Mache, Soap, and Paper Sculpture. The most complicated material I tried was Wire because it was hard to fit it through the small button holes. I would use Wire, Plaster Gauze, Papier Mache, Soap, and Paper Sculpture again. I wouldn't use Styrogami or Floral Foam again because I feel like I can't do a lot with those materials. I really like using wire and plaster gauze. I like to try to see what I can do with different materials, and I enjoy art classes. I want to learn a lot about sculptures. I want to make a lot of art that I would use at home. I really want to try to make stuff out of materials I've never had the chance to use before now. I also want to make a lot of fun sculptures out of plaster gauze and papier mache. I want to make art based on family and I want to make art that my family would use, too. I would like to make things to put in my room because my room is really plain.
