Target EvidenceFrank Big Bear is one artist who my artwork can be related to because he uses a theme of personal life. I used the theme of personal life in my artwork since my family spends time together watching movies and one movie we always watch during Christmas is Elf. My artwork is based on the Arctic Puppets from Elf. Other artists we looked at in class are Jim Denomie, who uses themes of American and Native American history and pop culture, Maggie Thompson, who uses themes of Cultural Appropriation and Stereotypes, Al Wadzinski, who uses a theme of Impacts on animals and nature, and Steve Premo, who uses the theme of Social Justice. Their art tells the viewers how it is for their cultural groups. They use things that happened in their lives and put it into art. Artist StatementMy artwork is a crab, a starfish, and a whale. I made it out of air-dry clay, paint, and wire. I shaped the 3 characters out of clay and painted them. I was going to make the puffin from the movie Elf, but that would be copying, so I decided to make a summer trio. I made them because my family loves to watch the movie Elf. We probably watched it at least 20 times together this year. I wanted to make something that I would really like and actually use. I am giving the crab to my Mom, the whale to my younger sister, and I am keeping the starfish for myself. I named the crab little legs because he is missing 4 legs. I think he would've looked weird with all ten legs. I named the starfish Al because when I was painting him his paint looked really wrinkly, but I covered it up with more paint. Also, Al is the grandpa from The Goldbergs, and my family watches The Goldbergs together. He is still pretty wrinkly, but he's not as bad as before. I named the whale Einstein because the whale has a huge head, so he can fit his huge brain inside. All three had to go through many facial reconstructions. I think my artwork turned out better than I wanted. I think they look pretty good and I am really surprised at how they turned out.
